Gender Reveal and 3D/4D Scans
HerView Ultrasound Limited prioritizes medical care, and we provide gender determination and 3D/4D scans as additional services when time permits. Gender determination is offered from 10 weeks through NIPT and 16+ weeks through a routine scan. If your baby measures less than 16 weeks by ultrasound measurements on the day of scan we will not be able to give an opinion on the gender.
At HerView Ultrasound, we offer gender scans as part of our private ultrasound services. Gender determination is an optional add-on to our primary focus, which is assessing your baby’s growth and wellbeing. This policy outlines the purpose, limitations, and disclaimers of gender scans to ensure transparency and manage expectations. Purpose of Gender Scans
- Gender scans are elective, non-medical scans that allow expectant parents the opportunity to learn their baby’s gender.
- The primary purpose of the scan is to evaluate the baby’s growth, wellbeing, and position, with gender determination being an optional secondary assessment.
- Gender determination is based on visual assessment/ sonographer opinion and is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate. Accuracy of Gender Scans
The accuracy of gender scans is approximately 98% (over 20 weeks ) 95% accurate at 16 -17 weeks under optimal conditions, including: •
Baby’s position during the scan.
- Gestational age of at least 16 weeks for clearer imaging.
- Absence of maternal or fetal factors that might obscure the view (e.g., abdominal wall thickness, fluid levels). While every effort is made to provide an accurate result, external factors beyond our control may affect the visibility of the baby’s gender during the scan. 9 Factors Impacting Accuracy:
- Certain genetic conditions, such as Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), can lead to ambiguous genitalia or genital swelling, which may affect the accuracy of gender determination.
- Temporary genital swelling in utero may also result in a misidentification of the baby’s gender.
Limitations and Disclaimers No Liability for Incorrect Gender Identification:
- HerView Ultrasound does not accept liability for expenses incurred by the patient as a result of an incorrect gender determination. This includes, but is not limited to, the cost of clothing, nursery items, or any other gender-specific purchases made based on the scan.
Non-Diagnostic Nature of the Gender Component:
- Gender determination is an optional add-on and is not the primary purpose of the scan.
- The scan is non-diagnostic for fetal anomalies, genetic conditions, or other medical concerns. Second Opinion Advisory: Patients are advised to have their baby’s gender confirmed during their routine 20–22 week anatomy scan at their hospital or healthcare facility. This is especially important if genetic conditions or other factors are a concern. Informed Consent By booking a gender scan, you confirm that you:
- Understand the limitations of gender scans. • Accept that the accuracy of gender determination is not guaranteed.
- Acknowledge that financial decisions made based on the gender result are at your own risk.
Note: Gender results are not always guaranteed, and refunds are not offered if the gender cannot be determined .
